Hot Hot Hot

It's hot and very humid today in Kentucky. My girls are all resting in various places on my deck and porch. Dixie woke up while I was taking her picture, got up and strolled into the house. She went back to sleep again in her favorite spot. Little girl came into the house a little later and Chatter is once again gone. She leaves every day at different times. She has absolutely no set schedule.

Little Girl is Not so Little Anymore ! ( Post From The Past )

I noticed in this past month that Little Girl is getting bigger and bigger, see for yourself. She was crawling up the far end of my porch, first up the latticework work then up the chicken wire, and over my flowers and plants. I had the wire their to keep my little tiny pup from falling through the railings. I kept it up on the far end of my porch for my Morning Glories to climb up and around on and as you can see that's just what they are doing.  I was concerned she would either hurt herself on the wire or kill my flowers.

I did everything I could to get her to just jump from the ground up onto the porch like the other cats did but I was noticing she just couldn't when she tried. It appeared that she really wanted to do this too so up went my ramp, from the ground propped onto the side of  my porch. She would not go up it. My daughter and  granddaughter tried to encourage her to go up it but she was afraid. You could see that she wanted too. She just looked up at that ramp with the desire but not the will. After my thinking about it for a couple of days I got a brain storm....put a piece of latticework on the top of the ramp, after all she climbed up the latticework on the side of my porch.
The next morning I sat on my porch right where the ramp was and kept tapping it with my cane. Little Girl was just looking at it when Gypsy and Dixie came out on the porch, walked over to where we were and ran right down the ramp onto the ground. Well, Little Girl I believe without even thinking ran down the ramp after them and as I sat their in amazement, up the ramp she came and sat near my chair with a big smile on her face. How good is that?

Chatter Got Hurt!

Chatters routine has been pretty much the same every day except yesterday morning. I looked for her early in the morning and she was on my porch table holding her right paw up. I got her pan of food and she barley was able to get up on the chair to eat it. She definitely has injured her right ankle or foot. I pray that she didn't break it. I would not hesitate to take her to the vet but the problem would be how to catch  her in order to take her to the vet.
She ate and I thought she would go to the other chair and sleep some as is her routine but no, she hobbles off the chair, goes down the cats ramp and slowly wanders off into the woods. Whats all that about !

The cats ramp? I had it made for Little Girl and that will be posted tomorrow. I looked for Chatter last evening when the sun started to go down. Got little done what with my going back and forth from bedroom where my TV and computer are to the living room to look out the large window. No sign of Chatter. I wondered why she would go into the woods and stay their all night with such an injured leg. She can hardly walk so how would she be able to get away from a wild dog, a wild cat, or the coyotes that are their. I wish I could get into my cats heads because of the strange things they do. I really needed another cat to worry about, shame on her....shame on me.

Well I worried for nothing, their she was in her chair this morning. She heard me and saw me in the window. She jumped off the chair, came to the window and just looked at me. I placed her pan of food on the chair and hurried back into the house to watch her get on the chair to eat. She did just fine,  the injured leg didn't even seem to bother her. When she was done eating she jumped off the chair and walked over to her sleeping chair without even a limp, curled herself up in a little ball and went to sleep. Wonderful, life is good.

Dixie’s Song

Dixie’s Song

She’s such a little brat cat,
Still I love her so.
I gave her the name Dixie
We’re from the south you know.

She’s such a little rascal,
By her eyes you can tell.
So often she gets in trouble,
I laugh rather then to yell.

After I make my bed,
She crawls up under the spread.
After I clean  her litter box out,
She jumps in and scatters it all about.

When I’m eating my dinner,
She sits near and waits for a bite,
If I don’t give her any,
She paws at my food with delight.

kitchen waste basket is always turned over,
House plants often dumped on the floor.
Even saw her once swinging from the bird feeder,
At times I think I can’t take anymore.

Still I don’t know what I’d do without her,
My sweet little funny face.
My home she fills with mischief and joy,
In my heart she has filled every space.

The Hidden Cat

Dixie ~ Gotta Love Her https://mykentuckycats.blogspot.com/:
She loves our Mimosa tree and I think she feels like she is very hidden in it and no one can see her.

Now she's hiding in my elephant ear plant,

and in the grass, no we can't see her....right.

A Name For The Stray!

He or she is on my deck and porch every day. Usually it comes out of the woods between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and jumps on my porch and goes to the waiting pan of food on the chair. He or she them goes to the other chair, washes itself and then falls asleep for awhile. Later all three of the cats roam around the yard, chase after bugs and butterflies,  or sleep sleep sleep on my porch railings  floor or chairs. When the sun starts to go down the stray walks down into the woods and as far as I know stays away all night. I really wish I could follow him or her so I could see just where the cat stays all night. I also wonder if the cat will  eventually stay on my porch all night, time will tell. I have named the stray Chatter. That's just what she does along with her meowing she talks a lot, she looks right at me and chatters. It works well for a male or a female so Chatter it is.

My Dixie is Sick~(Post From The Past)

Now that it's over, I can talk about it.

About two weeks ago my little cat Dixie got sick. It was on a Thursday that she had a case of diarrhea and she vomited in the bathroom. She seemed just fine though still playing and running around inside and out in the yard.
Every morning she jumps on my bed to wake me up and then she jumps in my wheelchair to get a ride into the bathroom where I put her food dish on a little table.
This Friday morning she did not jump up on my bed to wake me, she didn't get on my chair, she was under my bed. When I got her food dish out, she didn't come eat, she just went to the door to go outside. I didn't see her face or her eyes, I just let her go out. She jumped off the porch and dropped on the ground laying on her side. I was on my porch looking down at her and calling her. She barely was able to lift up her head to look at me and only then could I see her eyes. They were just half open and runny.
It was very hot out their already which worried me because it was still early in the morning and we have been having extremely hot weather over the past two days. I tried to call her back up to the porch so I could get her back into the house. She would not move!
It seems like I'm always home alone when these things happen. Trying to think about who I could call for help, when Dixie finally got up but then followed my other cat Little Girl down the path that went down a steep hill away from our property. I was now beside myself thinking all kinds of bad things happening to her.
1. she would be too weak to get back up the hill.
2. She had no food or water in her and she will get dehydrated out in the heat all day.
3. She has never been out after six o'clock and she'll get frightened.
I was now in a fearful state of mind and hated my inability to just get up out of this   @%#!!%^&^%#*!!%@  wheelchair and go get her !!!!!!
It was now about two in the afternoon and I finally called my granddaughter Chelsea, crying I told her my situation and asked her if she could buy me a bottle of Kayo syrup and come to the house. She did. She tried to calm me down telling me Dixie will come home soon, that cats do unbelievable things and that her cat came home even though someone had shot him with a bee bee gun and he had them in his hind leg and limped home and it all turned out fine after a trip to the vets. You know, that did help me.
I had brown rice, ice cubes, and a can of chicken broth. With that and the Kayo syrup, I was able to get my little pup Pookie back to health so I knew if I could just get Dixie home I would be able to help her.
It was now eight thirty in the evening and Dixie was never out this late! I could not eat or drink anything. I could not stop looking out the door at my porch for her. And I could not stop crying, and yes, I kept praying to God about my cat.
FINALLY !!!  she was laying on my porch, but she would not come. I tried cat food, fresh fish cat food, and her evening treats and nothing helped. It was so late by now and I was so tired. I was happy she was on the porch and not dead from the heat at the bottom of the hill, but my white cat was not home yet which is not unusual for her and I did not want Dixie leaving my porch and wandering off again.
I finally did get her in by opening up the large window that is off one end of the porch and goes into my living room. She came in that window. Now I can go to bed. I know I'm going into a lot of detail about the first day of my cats illness but I want you to go through the emotions one has when in a position of helplessness and housebound and wheelchair-bound.
Saturday ~ Dixie is real sick and now she is sneezing
uncontrollably, her eyes are half shut and she's warm. I try to get some water and food in her but she won't even try. I put some syrup on my finger and she did lick it off. I gave her some warm chicken broth and she drank a little. I then put some soft fish cat food in the broth and she drank and ate a little. No vets were open on the weekend. I called one on Monday morning and she would not be able to take Dixie till Wednesday. I called another and she could get her in between others around 1:00 P.M. and 2:00. Thankfully my daughter would be home from her job at one.
At last !!! my cat's at the vets.
She has  upper respiratory disease. and gastrointestinal. She got lots of medication, lots of chicken broth, lots of rest and love. I kept her in for one week.
Finally after a week of treatment she looked great, running around the house getting into the usual trouble and begging to go outside. I really did not want to let her out but by Monday morning a full week later, when I saw her standing on her hind legs, both paws on the window of my porch door, looking out and watching the other cats in the yard, Little Girl and my daughters cat, I could not take it  any  longer, I let her out. She ran around the yard, ate grass, and chased a butterfly, I knew my Dixie was back to her self healthy and happy and so was I !

We're Settled in Now

Good Day Friends !
I can almost count on it, the stray cat is I'm thinking no longer a stray. Every morning when I go out to my living room after feeding my cats and look out the window the stray is sleeping on the other chair on my porch. He or she looks up at me and lowers her head and goes back to sleep. When I first starting putting the cat food out the cat would go right over to it and start eating. Now she or he doesn't even go to the food until a bit later in the morning. I guess she's not starving anymore. I can tell she has gained a little weight too.

His Name is Alester And He Just Walked Away.

As you know this is a new blog and so I'm picking up stories from my other Fine Cats & Kittens blog to post on here. This is not a happy story but this blog is about My Kentucky Cats so here it is.

He is so happy playing with my cats, running and hiding under the pine trees, the blackberry bushes, and the woods below, he also loves sleeping on my porch, I’m happy he’s here, He especially liked Little Girl.
This past March my granddaughter Chelsea and her parents packed up everything and moved to Texas. I asked Chelsea to please leave him with me. As you read you’ll see that Alister already was staying on the big deck and my back porch, he loved it their ! He also enjoyed playing in the woods in the back yard and playing with my cats Dixie and Little Girl. I was certain he would be happy here rather then be shipped off to a new and unknown place. He seemed to be content and settled into his new arrangement, but he would not come into my house even though one night it was cold and raining. I put a large towel on the chair that he slept in on my porch and felt he would stay warm and be fine. He was just fine and as the days began to warm up I was sure that Alister was going to become a permanent member to my family.
Two weeks had gone by and things seemed to be going well when one day, I remember so well because I was in my living room staring out the big picture window when I saw Alister  walking on the other side of our fence. I never saw him on that side of the fence before so I just watched him walk slowly down the hill and into the woods.
DSCN1354
I have not seen Alister since that day. He never came back. Was he aware of what was going on as he watched my family move every piece of furniture out of the house into a big truck, even his favorite chair? Did he think that Chelsea would surely be home that night as he watched her get into the truck and saw it move down the road and out of site? Did he wonder why the lights never came on at night in the house, and no one opened the front door to let him in? Was his heart broken?
I looked for Alister for a year after he walked away. I have heard stories about cats that ran away from home and return three four and even five years later. When I first saw the tan and cream stray two weeks ago, and only could see the cat from afar, I thought it just might be Alister. My heart started to beat  fast and I held my breath trying to get a better look at him. The stray is not Alister.

My Cat in The Potted Plant

Peek a boo

My cat loves to sit in my potted plant,
He believes he’s as small as a tiny ant.
His eyes are so large, round, and green,
He really believes that he can’t be seen.
While his head peeks through the lower branches,
He thinks you don’t see him, what are the chances.

Guess What !

The stray came back after staying away for a day. At about eight in the morning as I was getting my coffee I heard her meowing and making funny noises. I know her meow so I knew it was her before I pulled back the drape. The funny noises I can't explain, it's like a chattering if that makes sense. Their she was staring right at the glass door. She didn't run away as I opened the drape either, that's nice. I got the pan of food and placed it on the same chair she is used to on my porch and went back to getting my most needed cup of coffee. I had my camera ready on my kitchen bar in case I saw her again and got a shot of her leaving my deck to go over to my porch where the food was. Here she is up close and moving quickly.
